Minimum service levels agreed for General Strike on March 29th

The Ministry of Development and the CCOO and UGT unions have agreed minimum service levels for transportation during the general strike on March 29th, these being roughly the same as those in place for the September 2010 general strike.

Poll on general strike

A poll carried out by Simple Lógica shows that 47.6% are against the proposed general strike on March 29th with 44.6% supporting the action. This is despite the vast majority apparently opposing the labour reforms.

Flight cancellations due to Portuguese general strike

A general strike in Portugal today, Wednesday November 24th, has caused the cancellation of virtually all the fifty daily flights between Barajas and the Portuguese airports of Lisbon and Oporto. Iberia have cancelled 12 flights, TAP have cancelled 16, EasyJet 6 and Ryanair 2.

Post Office closed, as is Mercadona and a few small shops but basically like any other day really. Banks open, although many employees in more ‘casual’ wear in case the Unions turned up and they had to close.

General strike looms

Unions in Andalucia are expecting good support for the general strike tomorrow, Wednesday September 29th, despite what they believe has been a ‘smear’ campaign by the business sector.

Talks on minimum service levels on September 29th are continuing

The Ministry of Public Works and the Unions have so far failed to reach agreement on minimum service levels relating to international flights during the General Strike on September 29th. The Ministry is wanting a 40% service, the Unions have been suggesting 0%.

Service levels during the General Strike

The Unions have made an agreement with the Ministry of Employment, the Employers Confederation of Andalusia (CEA) and the Municipal Councils regarding minimum service levels during the General Strike on September 29th.

Plans for a general strike

The CCOO and UGT Trades Unions have decided upon September 29th as the date for a general strike to protest against the government’s labour policy. It is the same day that the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) has called for action throughout the EU.
