Market meeting postponed

The meeting between the Nerja Council and the Market Traders Association, scheduled for last Monday, has been postponed until January 9th 2009. The meeting is to discuss the proposal made by the Market Traders to use the Parque Verano Azul as a site for the weekly market. It is now 28 weeks since Nerja last had a weekly market.

Nerja market, a glimmer of hope?

It has now been 22 weeks without a regular weekly market, the traders once again gathering outside the Town Hall to protest, but there is a faint glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, although it could still turn out to be another oncoming train.

Ombudsman gives up

According to the Town Hall, a letter has been received from the Ombudsman for Andalucía, José Chamizo de la Rubia, in which he states that he sees no justification for further action regarding the dispute between the Council and the Association of Market Traders (AVAM) and intends to ‘file’ the case.

Tivoli World

The Sunday market has returned to Tivoli World amusement park and is open from 11:00 to 13:00 each week, entrance €1. The amusement park itself is now only open on Saturdays from 12:00 to 20:00 and on Sundays from 11:00 to 20:00.

Market dispute worsens

Still no weekly market in Nerja and the situation appears to be worsening after attempts to procure an alternative location, either in calle Carabeo on on the Rio Chillar riverbed, have apparently failed.

A meeting has been scheduled for 10:00 tomorrow, July 24th, between the Nerja Council and the Association of Market Traders (AVAM).
