At the full plenary session of the Council, a motion was approved expressing full institutional support for the Nerja Museum and requesting the president of the Nerja Caves Foundation, Hilario López Luna, to put someone competent in charge so as to ensure the viability of the project and to get the museum included in the Andalucia Museum Network.

Court rejects Nerja Council application

The Court of Contentious Administrative No. 6 in Málaga has rejected the application by Nerja Council for an interim halt to proceedings relating to the completion of the Nerja Museum on the grounds that it would be against the public interest and result in lengthy delays.

The AEN (Asociación de Empresarios de Nerja) is asking the Council to withdraw legal proceedings against the Nerja Museum relating to possible irregularities in the financing of the last phase of the project. The tendering process for furnishing the History Museum has been suspended following allegations of ‘serious irregularities’ in the administrative process and the acquiring of loans for the work.

Phase Two of the Nerja Museum set to begin in the near future

The Nerja Caves Foundation is set to adopt a proposal to put the project to complete the interior of the new museum out to tender and, barring any technical difficulties, it is thought that the museum could be open to the public at the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011.
