Unemployment still rising

As politicians continue to tell us that the economic situation is improving and the crisis is over, unemployment figures for October show an increase of  98,906 with a total of 3,808,353 people out of work.

Three in ten Andalucíans living below poverty line

A report by the EAPN Andalucía (Andalusian Network for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion) concludes that almost three in ten Andalucíans are living below the poverty line and one in four is unemployed.

Fall in unemployment for July

According to the ational Employment Institute (INEM), unemployment fell by 20,794 in July, the third consecutive monthly decrease.

It’s not getting any better

Unemployment in Andalucía reached 944,100 in the first quarter of 2009 which, in percentage terms, is 24.04%. The figures have just been released by the National Institute for Statistics.

Unemployment up by 3.93% in Andalucía

Unemployment in Andalucía rose by 3.93% compared to the previous month, bringing the total number out of work to 774,198. Nationally, the increase in unemployment in February was 4.63%. Provincially, unemployment in Jaén was up by 10.5%, Almería up by 5.91%, Córdoba up by 5.03%, Sevilla up by 4.04%,  Granada up by 3.79% and Málaga up by 3.32%.

Unemployment at record high

Unemployment in January 2009 hit an all-time high, reaching 3,327,801 according to the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration. Since January 2008, unemployment has risen by 1,065,876, a 47.2% increase. All sectors of industry have been affected.

Bleak outlook for 2009
