Five arrested for stealing potatoes

Police have arrested five people, all Spanish nationals and residents of Málaga, on suspicion of robbery after they were caught red-handed loading 100 kilos of stolen potatoes into a van at a farm in Vélez-Málaga.

Huge demand at ATIS diner

In the first five days of operation of the dining facility set up in Vélez-Málaga to help those with limited or no financial resources as a result of unemployment and the general financial crisis, a total of 750 meals were distributed free of charge to needy families in the community.

Two illegal bingo halls closed down

Police have closed down two illegal bingo parlours, one in Torre del Mar and one in Vélez-Málaga, in which a total of 65 people were playing at the time of the raids.

Direct hit in Vélez-Málaga

Residents of a four-storey apartment block in the centre of Vélez-Málaga were startled on Tuesday afternoon when the building suffered a direct lightning strike via the television antenna. Although there were no injuries and the structure was not damaged, the interior showed visible signs of the strike.

New training courses for young people

Vélez-Málaga Council has launched a training scheme with 942 places aimed at people aged between 18 years and 35 years to improve the qualifications of young people seeking employment.

Repainting road markings

Vélez-Málaga Council has started a project to repaint road markings in the municipality and renew and replace street furniture, rubbish bins and other items. The project has an investment of €184,910.42 and is being funded, naturally, through the Programme for the Promotion of Agricultural Employment (PROFEA).
