Seven arrested for making false robbery claims

National Police in Vélez-Málaga have arrested seven people for crimes against the administration of justice, making false allegations and simulating crimes. Six of the detainees have also been charged with fraud.

Works completed in calles Pizarro and Evaristo Guerra

The works in calles Pizarro and Evaristo Guerra have now been completed. The €145,000 project, financed 50-50 by the Provincial Council and Municipal Council under the Provincial Plan for Works and Services. To celebrate the completion of the works, the mayor, Francisco Delgado, Councillor for Infrastructure, Concha Labao, and the artist Evaristo Guerra, after whom one of the streets is named, visited the area.

Moves to replace ageing police vehicles

The problems caused by ageing and continual breakdowns of Local Police vehicles in the municipal fleet will be resolved by Easter, according to the Councillors for Revenue and Mobility, Manuel Gutiérrez and Francisco Natera.

Request for land for private hospital

Two separate groups have apparently approached Vélez-Málaga Council to obtain plots of land to operate private hospital and a centre for clinical analysis. In addition, land has also been requested by a company wishing to set up a private British college.

Failure to pay up keeps increasing the bill

The failure by Vélez-Málaga Council to pay the compensation awarded five years ago by the Supreme Court to residents of El Copo has meant that the total bill has now risen from the original €2.8 million to a staggering €5.2 million.

Two ‘Q’ flags for Vélez-Málaga

Vélez-Málaga Council has received the ‘Q’ for Quality flags for the beaches of Torre del Mar and Benajarafe at a presentation in Madrid on Friday. The flags are awarded in recognition of environmental quality, cleanliness and safety, quality of services and information offered.

H&M to open in El Ingenio

The textile group Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) is opening four new shops in Spain in Vélez-Málaga (El Ingenio Centre), Madrid, Cuenca, and Mataró (Barcelona), creating around sixty jobs. The first to open will be in the new Castellana 200 complex in Madrid on March 7th, follwed by the rest.

Cut in water supply on Thursday January 31st 2013

Repairs to the Plan Guaro water supply network will cause cuts in supply between 09:00 and 21:00 on Thursday January 31st in the centre of Vélez-Málaga (except La Fortaleza and La Gloria) and urbanisations El Tomillar and Limonar, the El Ingenio centre, urbanisations Baviera Golf and Rivera Trayamar, Caleta de Vélez, Mezquitilla and Lagos.
