World Cup to be displayed in Nerja?

The Councillor for Sports, Andrés Márquez, is hoping that the football World Cup will be displayed in Nerja at some time during June. The Councillor stated that he has been in contact with the secretary of the Football Federation, Oscar Gil, regarding a suitable date and place.

Apparently, when the wise men of FIFA awarded the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, one of the stipulations was that its newly constructed open-air soccer stadiums had to be air conditioned as summer temperatures are often 50 degrees.

Football was the real winner in the end as Spain eventually overcame the animals Holland by a single goal, scored by Iniesta in extra time.

The ‘psychic’ octopus was spot-on, again

Spain played their best football of the World Cup so far, starting with mucho gusto and dominating the play as the Germans sat back and waited for the opportunity to counter-attack. The winning, and only goal of the match, came from a corner in the 73rd minute and it was scored by, of all people, Carlos Pujol.

Much hooting in the streets as Spain overcame Portugal 1-0 to reach the quarter finals of the World Cup and a meeting with Paraguay who, earlier in the day, beat Japan on penalties.
