One dead in aircraft crash in Vélez-Málaga

One person died and another was seriously injured after their light aircraft crashed about five hundred metres from the Leoni Benabú airfield in Vélez-Málaga.

Guided tours

Vélez-Málaga Council is introducing guided tours of the major points of interest in the town, these being funded through the FEDER Iniciativa Urbana ‘De toda la Villa’ scheme.

Foundation stone laid for the Jardín del Cerro

The mayor of Vélez Málaga, Francisco Delgado Bonilla PP), has laid the foundation stone for the jardín del Cerro, a €2.7 million project to turn the cerro de San Cristóbal into a large cultural, environmental and entertainment area.

Prompt police action prevents suicide

National Police officers arrived in the nick of time to save a 58-year-old man who was trying to hang himself with a nylon cord attached to the fencing of a residential home for seniors in Torre del Mar.

Six more new police cars

The Local Police today took delivery of six new police cars, adding to the four they received in June. The acquisition, costing €473,670.72 for 48 months on a lease basis, should have been completed by Easter but was delayed.

Tram begins its journey to Sydney

This morning, the Vélez-Málaga tram has started its final journey, destination Sydney, Australia. The tram ceased functioning on June 4th 2012 and the Council has negotiated a €200,000 per year rental agreement with the city of Sydney.

Repairs to lighthouse

The Málaga Port Authority has begun to repair and paint the lighthouse in Torre del Mar, a project which is expected to take one month.
