Worker seriously injured in fall from ladder
A 55-year-old man was seriously injured on Friday after falling three metres from a ladder while working on the feria lighting in Vélez-Málaga.
Fire in Plaza de La Paz, Torre del Mar
A fire in edificio Miramar 1 in plaza de la Paz, Torre del Mar, necessitated the evacuation of residents from the entire fourth floor as a precautionary measure.
Moves to bring back the ‘elefante blanco’
The Minister of Works and Housing of the Junta de Andalucia, Elena Cortés, has reportedly made a ‘commitment’ to bring back the tram system to Vélez-Málaga. The tram was suspended in June 2012 and the vehicles leased to the Australian city of Sydney.
Fire near naturist camp site
A fire amongst palm trees at playa de Almayate Bajamar, next to the naturist camp site, on Tuesday resulted in the temporary evacuation of fifty people as smoke filled the area.
Emaús Social Dining Centre
In the period from July 31st to September 7th, the newly created Emaús Social Dining Centre has provided 17,613 daily menus (breakfast, lunch, dinner) to the needy in the community, either as eat-in in the dining room or as take-away.
Eight members of one family arrested following brawl
Eight members of one family in Vélez-Málaga have been arrested as the alleged perpetrators of violence and threats during a brawl which took place on August 29th 2013.

Mango thieves detained
Two men, aged 32 and 53 years, have been arrested on suspicion of stealing 300 kilos of mangoes from a farm in Benamargosa.
