Avocado thefts continue

Farmers in the Axarquia continue suffer losses to thieves who, in the past five days, have stolen 8,000 kilos of avocados.

Thieves have been raiding farms in the Axarquia, in one instance stealing €15,000 worth of avocados as well as a trailer.

Grants for vehicles

In the first part of this year, the provincial authorities have issued grants totalling €121,800 to municipalities in the Axarquia for the purchasing of vehicles.

Farmers in the Axarquia are not only having to contend with the economic crisis and other problems, but also with the ever-growing number of thefts from farms.

End of Axarquia drought decree

The drought decree for the Axarquia will cease to be effective as from April 1st. There are currently 18 municipalities in the Axarquia still under the decree.

The way forward?

The Iniciativa de Turismo Sostenible – Initiative for Sustainable Tourism – is a scheme designed to enhance and improve tourism in the Axarquia, a district made up of 31 municipalities. The plan envisages an investment of €43.6 in the area, with €24 million being provided by the Junta de Andalucía.

Possible end to drought restrictions in the Axarquia

The reservoir at Lake Viñuela has reached 50.09 cubic hectometres, almost double the level of one week ago and 10 cubic hectometres more than at the same time last year. This means that, in all probability, next month could see the lifting of drought restrictions regarding irrigation and domestic consumption.
