Unwelcome visitor

Not what you expect when sunbathing. Ángeles Navarta was stretched out on the beach in Lagos when she felt a bite on her arm and then saw a huge rat scurrying away. Large rodents are, apparently, not an uncommon sight along this stretch of coast.

A bit close…

Not at all sure whether this was animal (and if so, what species), mineral or vegetable, but it was very close to shore today at the promontory at the end of Torrecilla beach. It didn’t seem to bother the fish, though, hundreds of them swarming around.

Never really off duty

A Guardia Civil officer from Madrid, on holiday in Torremolinos, was instrumental in detaining an individual who was allegedly robbing bathers at the beach.

A second indecent exposure case in Estepona

In the second similar incident within two days in Estepona, a 40 year old Cuban national was arrested and charged with indecent exposure and assault on a beach in the municipality.

A cleaner Lagos

The village of Lagos in the municipality of Vélez-Málaga is now connected to the main collector of the new water treatment plant in Torrox, which means that raw sewage will no longer be discharged into the river and it should see an end to the pollution of the beaches.

Fatality on El Ejido beach

A 40 year old Rumanian national died this afternoon on Almerimar beach in El Ejido. All efforts to revive him ended in failure.

Improvements to beach toilets in Benalmádena

Benalmádena Council has started a project to improve the public toilets on Torrebermeja and Malapesquera beaches. The €38,280 project is aimed at preventing the regular overflowing of the septic tanks due to massive use of the toilets during the summer months.

Maro beach kiosk concession

The Council has approved the terms and conditions for awarding the kiosk concession for Maro beach.
