Loan to restore areas around Competa which were destroyed by fire
The Junta de Andalucia has authorised a credit of €349,888 to enable ecological restoration work in public forest areas around Competa and Canillas de Albaida which were damaged by fire.

The wildfire in the Sierra Tejeda-Almijara Natural Park in Competa, which destroyed 200 hectares of forest and forced the precautionary evacuation of around 600 people, was ‘no accident’ according to José Luis Ruiz Espejo, a delegate of the Junta de Andalucia in Málaga.

A wildfire is raging in Competa, with 17 aerial units, firefighters and various technicians working to control the blaze which can be seen from Nerja.
Plenty of white stuff…
Quite a bit of snow covering many of the surrounding hills, giving a chill wind, and there was even ice down on El Playazo beach on Thursday morning. With snow appearing all over Andalucia, a quick road trip to Competa was suggested by someone who has never seen snow close up before, and so off we went.

Almost half of the buildings in the municipality of Competa, 1,577 out of 3,612, are apparently on rural or non-developable land, making them illegal.
Competa Councillor Tom Ferber dies at the age of 69 years
The Councillor for Tourism in Competa, Tom Ferber (PP), died on Sunday at the age of 69 years after a four year battle against cancer. He was buried on Monday at the local cemetery.
Another attempt to have Falangist plaque removed in Competa
The PSOE has denounced the fact that the PP goverment in Málaga has rejected a motion to urge the Competa Council to remove a Falangist monument located on the road into Competa.
