The opposition PSOE is asking the PP government to put an end to the paid parking in Los Huertos de Carabeo, saying that the tariffs are ‘unfair’, especially considering that two days before the last municipal elections the Mayor of Nerja announced that parking for residents would only be €7 per month.

Prices keep on changing at the car park in Los Huertos de Carabeo, the largest parking area in Nerja with 1,000 places, although not so popular since the introduction of charges.
The reduced rate parking fee for Nerja residents of €7 per month at the Los Huertos de Carabeo car park was due to start on July 1st, but this has been brought forward by the owners and it will now start today, Wednesday June 8th.
The Los Huertos de Carabeo car park does not, naturally, appear to be as popular since it became a paid facility. Residents will have a special rate of €7 per month as from July 1st but, looking at the current notice at the site, the free parking option no longer applies.
According to the Mayor of Nerja, José Alberto Armijo, the owners of the Los Huertos de Carabeo car park have agreed a special discounted parking tariff for residents of Nerja (i.e. registered on the census/padrón) of €7 per month and applicable as from July 1st 2011.
The Councillor for Car Parks, Antonio Navas, has defended the legality of the new paid car park in Los Huertos de Carabeo, saying that the owner of the land has all the necessary legal documentation and favourable reports from the municipal technicians.
According to the PSOE leader in Nerja, Ángel Ramírez, the agreement between the municipality and the owners of the Los Huertos de Carabeo land to allow free parking for local residents only extends to May 20th.
Residents of Nerja will not be charged for using the Los Huertos de Carabeo car park until an agreement is reached between the owners of the land and the Council on season ticket prices for those living in the area.
