The first deputy mayor at the centre of the current storm in a teacup in Nerja, José García Beltrán, has reportedly used his Facebook page to announce that he will be resigning his post, although he does not state whether or not he will continue as a councillor.

Political change in the wind?

The pact which allowed the the PSOE and IU to rule as a minority government in Nerja has reportedly been renounced by the two members of Ciudadanos following the publication on social media of ‘abusive’ and ‘insulting’ remarks by the first deputy mayor, José Garcia Beltrán.

In what is being perceived as a purely party political manoeuvre, the opposition PP has asked for ‘information’ to be provided to show that the hiring of the husband of the new Mayor as an administrative assistant is ‘legal’ and has all the necessary ‘favourable reports’.

Main parties blame corruption for the rapid rise of Podemos

The Socialists (PSOE) and Partido Popular (PP) appear to be putting the meteoric rise in popularity of new party Podemos down to the apparently never-ending series of corruption scandals affecting the mainstream parties, and it seems to be causing them concern.

Just when you think there could potentially be a breath of fresh air on the political scene with the rapid rise of a new party, Podemos, they go and spoil it.

It is just ten months until the next municipal elections and it is thought that after three years of underinvestment and a lack of major projects, many municipalities will now begin releasing millions of euros and announce the proposed execution of a variety of major works. As they always do.
