La Caleta fishing fleet remains in port

The fishermen in Caleta de Vélez remained in port on Thursday in protest at the implementation of health regulations on how fish has to be presented at the market, the rules applying to both the buyers and sellers.

Protests continue in Torrox Costa

For the second week running, the Platform for the Defence of the Beaches in Torrox organised a protest on the N-340 coastal road, cutting traffic in both directions on Monday, with local businessmen and residents demanding a permanent solution to the problem of beach erosion in the municipality.

Around 200 protesters blocked the N-340 in Torrox yesterday, cutting the traffic flow for a total of 45 minutes as they demanded action to end the constant erosion of the beaches in Torrox Costa.

El Trapiche residents fed up with noisy planes

Residents in El Trapiche are fed up with having to endure the almost daily racket caused by planes from the local airfield performing acrobatic tricks overhead and have begun to collect signatures for a petition to be delivered to the Civil Aviation Authority in Vélez-Málaga.

Sunday protest

The Nerja Green Party will be holding a demonstration outside the Town Hall at 7.30pm tonight and collecting signatures to stop over 100 trees, all 20+ yrs old, in Calle Chaparil from being chopped down and replaced with palm trees. If you are passing by then they would appreciate your support.

Local protest

The Council decision to remove the existing (about 150) cork trees from calle Chaparil and replace some of them with palms has not met with everyone’s approval and, using a Facebook campaign amongst other means, a group of local people are protesting this decision.

Protest by carriage drivers

The coach drivers have been protesting outside the Town Hall against the decision to relocate the carriages to the Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos, a move the drivers believe will be detrimental to their livelihoods.

Protest about illegal homes

Groups of foreign residents with ‘irregular’ homes built on rustic land will be heading for Málaga on Wednesday to protest their situation, the event coinciding with the meeting in the city of the European Union of Ministers of Regional Policy.

Protest by street traders

Street vendors in Andalucia are protesting against a new European directive relating to their profession and they are holding a rally outside the parliament building in Sevilla.
