Out with the old, in with the new
As is customary at the end of the Maro Feria, a new Festivities Committee takes over the organisation of celebrations in the town. The new ‘Junta de Festejos’ is: Miguel Valverde, Manolo Ruiz, Imma Casanova, Carlos Franquelo, Javier Zorrilla, Carlos Gálvez, Fernando Díaz, Michel Albertsen, María Moreno, Estíbaliz Zorrilla, Gema Moreno, Inmaculada Valverde, Carmen Muñoz and Sonia Martín.
Still TDT reception problems in Maro
Five months after the switch from analogue TV to the new TDT, there are still areas in the Axarquia where the signal is non-existent or, at best, intermittent, one of these areas being the village of Maro.
Maro Feria programme
The Feria de las Maravillas takes place in Maro from September 7th to September 11th with a variety of activities taking place each day.
New ‘green zone’ in Maro
There is now a new ‘green area’ at the entrance to Maro and the plan is to complete the project by building a children’s playground. This new public area covers 2,500 square metres and was financed under the first Plan Zapatero.
Work started on footpath to La Caleta beach in Maro
Work has started on the footpath to La Caleta beach in Maro according to the Councillor for Beaches, Jonathan Méndez. The beach area was repaired a couple of years ago but was subsequently destroyed by storms. There are no plans, however, to provide any services at the beach, the idea being that it remains a ‘natural’ area.
Two more blue flags
This year, Nerja has increased its number of ‘blue flag’ beaches from two to four, with Maro and El Playazo now joining regular recipients Burriana and Torrecilla.
Trillebordet in Maro
Under the title, ‘Voices of the North’, the Norwegian vocal group Trillebordet will be giving a concert in the iglesia de Nuestra Señora de las Maravillas in Maro on Friday May 14th.
Artificial reefs
The Councillor for the Environment, José Miguel Jimena, is to meet with the Department of Coasts to request the installation of artificial reefs in Nerja, specifically between the beaches of Maro and El Playazo.
Maro beach kiosk concession
The Council has approved the terms and conditions for awarding the kiosk concession for Maro beach.
