Strong winds close Sierra Nevada ski resort

After a great start to the long ‘puente’ weekend, the Sierra Nevada ski resort was forced to close the ski slopes on Monday due to strong gusting winds up to 120 kph.

Around 7,000 skiers enjoyed the first day of the Puente de la Constitución at the Sierra Nevada ski resort in Granada with 54.5 kilometres of pistes available for their enjoyment, the second highest amount at this time of year in the past decade.

The Sierra Nevada Ski Resort in Granada will open on Saturday November 27th with around 14 kilometres of skiable pistes and a smow depth ranging from 10cm to 40cm.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort has recorded its best ever Easter vacation period with an average of 9,700 skiers on the main holiday days, Wednesday to Saturday, with a total of 76,632 users since last Saturday.

Ski station doing well

After a very on-off winter at the Sierra Nevada ski station due to storms and high winds, it looks like being a good Easter holiday with almost all of the skiable area open to the public. Hotel occupancy is around 90% plus.
