Early morning dippers…

While the majority of people were mooching around in jackets early this morning, one group were enjoying an early morning dip down on Torrecilla beach. Can’t imagine the water being very warm at the moment!

Storm damage to El Chucho beach

The recent, fairly mild storm has destroyed much of El Chucho beach although Torrecilla beach has remained relatively unscathed apart from a narrow sand ‘shelf’. This situation will continue until such time as adequate breakwaters are put in place.

Amazing October weather…

Absolutely amazing weather for almost the middle of October, temperatures around 30 degrees, loads of people on the beaches, people swimming. And it is the first time in years that it hasn’t rained for Feria! A nice break from tradition, I must say.

Not bad for nearly the end of September…

A lot of people down on Torrecilla beach this morning, great for the end of September. The sea is calm and, today, very clean and clear. Plenty of people swimming as well although I would imagine the water is not exactly ‘bath temperature’, it got quite cold at the end of August.

Stabilisation of Torrecilla beach

The Council has asked the Ministry of Environment Rural and Marine to treat the Project to Improve the Coastline and Stabilise Torrecilla beach as two separate items and make the Stabilisation of Torrecilla beach a first phase.

View from a beach towel…

For once the weather people were right and it did become ‘noticeably cooler’. Amazing what a difference a couple of degrees can make. Still nice and warm, though.

Clean sweep…

If these bins were emptied last night or early this morning then an awful lot of people are putting rubbish out at the wrong time. Meanwhile, down on Torrecilla beach – which was packed -the sea was crystal clear. Well, close to shore anyway.

Wind, waves, crazy petanca and Hoppy…

Not tooooo bad in town today but more than a slight breeze down on the beach. Big waves, palms bending in the wind and the big, strong gulls struggling to make headway. Didn’t stop the bathers though, despite red flags fluttering wildly in the tempest.

Beach erosion

The erosion of the beaches, due to weather and tides, is a permanent feature of coastal life and will remain so until the necessary breakwaters are installed. Part of the eastern end (Plaza Fabrica de los Cangrejos) of Torrecilla beach has disappeared and there is a shelf, but the remainder of the area is nice and flat.

Jingle patter…

A lot of people around town at the moment, the Balcon de Europa veritably buzzing. Quite a few large tour groups wandering around today. Lovely weather for it, and the forecast for the re-arranged Residents day on Sunday is good.
