Forest fire in Tarifa under control

A forest fire near to the El Cuartón urbanisations in Tarifa which has so far destroyed 20 hectares of cork trees and scrub land has been brought under control. An investigation has started into the causes of the fire but there is apparently already evidence to suggest that it was caused intentionally.

Man drowns trying to save his son

A 40 year old man drowned on Monday afternoon while trying to rescue his son at playa de Zahara in Tarifa, Cádiz province.

Moroccan fishing vessel detained

A Moroccan fishing vessel, the ‘Mehdya’, has been intercepted and detained by the Spanish authorities for apparently fishing in the Straits of Gibraltar using illegal nets.

Ferry crossings affected by bad weather

Passenger and car ferries between Tarifa and Tangier have been temporarily suspended today, Sunday, due to heavy seas and winds up to force 6. Some ferries between Algeciras and Ceuta and Tangier have also been cancelled due to the weather.

Search for illegals in Tarifa

Police are hunting for 15 to 20 illegal immigrants who fled after their boat landed at playa de Valdevaqueros in Tarifa,  Cádiz province, this morning.

Search for missing swimmer

A search is continuing in Tarifa for a woman who disappeared while swimming on Friday evening. Boats, a plane and a helicopter are involved in the search. The woman was last seen at around 20:00 on Friday.
